Associate Professor Ossie Petrucco was taught reversal of sterilisation procedures by international experts Sherman Silber (USA) and Lord Robert Winston (UK). Together they have conducted microsurgery courses in Adelaide to teach Australian specialists these procedures. Having a major interest in “keyhole” surgery he was appointed inaugural President of the Australian Gynaecological and Surgery Society. He has Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Subspecialty (R.E.I.) status of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He has chaired the R.E.I. Sub-committee with responsibility for training examination of subspecialists in Australia. As Chair of the RTAC committee of the Fertility Society of Australia he accredited all units performing IVF in Australia and New Zealand. He was Director of Gynaecology at The Women`s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide where he established reproductive microsurgery and carried out the first female reversal of sterilisation procedure in South Australia. Since then he has performed several hundred reversal procedures in men and women. Together with Dr Derek Lok, he has perfected Laparoscopic reversal of sterilisation in females following trials of this procedure utilising a sheep model.
